The County Council is the County elected legislative body, and it is vested with all law-making power granted by its Charter and by the General Assembly of Maryland. The seven members of the Council are respectively elected from each of seven contiguous and equally-populated Councilmanic districts. County Council members serve four year terms.
There are 41 boards and commissions that study a variety of topics. Qualified volunteers should be willing to contribute their time and attend regular meetings for the purpose of making recommendations to County government that enhance the quality of life in our County.

The City Council is the City's legislative body, with the power to enact all ordinances and resolutions. City Council members are elected from fourteen districts, and the President is elected at-large, by all voters of the City. The fifteen City Council members, along with the Mayor, act only by ordinance, resolution or motion. City Council members are elected every four years. They are elected to geographic districts of roughly the same proportion of population.

Every day, decisions made by Calvert County government officials affect you. Now is a great time to get involved. The Board of County Commissioners has established many boards, commissions, and committees that offer Calvert County citizens an avenue to actively participate in local government.

The County Council consists of five members who serve four-year terms and who, since 1986, have been elected from five separate districts. There is a three term limit for Council members.
Howard County Boards and Commissions play an important role in fostering citizen involvement in our government. County Boards or Commissions cover a wide variety of topics ranging from the environment, fire and rescue services and cable, just to name a few.
The County Executive and County Council encourage people who live or work in Montgomery County to become actively involved in matters affecting the quality of life in Montgomery County. Appointments are made to more than 75 Boards, Committees, and Commissions (BCCs) by the County Executive, with confirmation by the County Council.
Providing the opportunity to inform, and to be well informed, the Department's Citizen Advisory Council and Chief's Advisory Council meet regularly with district commanders and the Chief. These meetings address crime and quality-of-life issues in each of the six police districts.
